I bought both 8G and 8N and was hoping to see a lifting of my dull, ash color toward the honey blonde color shown on the website, as well as elimination of prominent grey sections of hair along my temples. To my delight, the grey was completely eliminated, as hoped for. However, the overall color I ended up with was unexpected. It turned out to be what I can only describe as a strawberry brown color. Having never been remotely close to being a "red head" before, I found to my absolute, utter surprise, I actually liked my new hair color and my overall new look! Fortunately, so did my husband, my hair stylist, and numerous others I nervously checked with, who all raved about how completely natural and beautiful my new color looked on me! My hair also ended up softer and more shiny than it was before, which, for me, was significant because I have curly, fine, easily damaged, shoulder-length hair. So, at 71 years young, I am quite pleased with the end result of my very first venture into "do-it-yourself" hair coloring. As long as one can be open to the possibility of an unexpected result, I recommend giving this product a try.

I tried this color for the first time after having used store box medium brown for years wanting to get away from chemicals as much as possible while still using a reasonable process to color my hair that seemed reliable. It is really just as easy as the box at the store and did not have the stinging of the eyes and scalp burning. Also, there was no itchiness on my scalp or leftover dye on on it after washing it out and I did not have the extreme dryness the box dye created each month. I have resistant gray and it covered great and three weeks later is wearing well. The only thing I found is the coverage is very uniform upon application, hiding my natural highlights, but after a wash or two it eases up to let natural tones through.

I've been using ONC for about a year. I researched healthier hair colors because I've been covering gray for 30+ years and my hair was fried. I have an old fashioned strainer in my old tub and I was really worried about my hair loss. I'd be standing in several inches of water each time I washed my hair because so much was falling out. Not any longer! I'm losing less than a quarter of the hair I was before and the color looks great. It's downright glossy. Strangers stopped me twice the first time I used it to say how nice my hair looked! Yes it takes about twice as long as other at home brands. Yes, you need the heat cap! Worth the investment. You also have to do a protein conditioner 1-2 times the week you color--what a difference. It doesn't have to be ONC protein, I'm using Nutress and it's great. Follow the directions on the haircolor exactly. I even called the number and had a great talk with the person in charge--he talked me through it, all the reasoning, making sure I got each step and understood why it was needed for the product to work. You will need a measuring cup that shows milliliters to mix it--hopefully it will show 25 ml--that's how much color then that much fixing agent for the roots. Then repeat for the rest of the hair when it's time to get to it. Well worth the extra time and money!

I turned to ONC Natural Color due to alarming hair loss which my dermatologist attributed to the ethanolamine in another brand “natural color” which used it as a replacement for ammonia but which has turned out to cause 85% more hair loss. Ouch.
I was so thrilled when I found ONC and have been delighted with every single color I have tried, and I am still experimenting.
I have very dark brown hair with a lot of gray. Nothing against gray hair but it is not becoming on me and I shoot for a brown ashy color and my gray becomes kind of like highlights. It does not have the flat dyed harsh look and as it grows out or fades, it blends in much better than the other brands I have tried in the past.
I always mix with Blue Mix and a little from the Ash colors to tone down some of the red.
Each blend has been slightly different, but they have all looked great! And I am having fun varying it a little bit to see if I stumble on the “perfect” one for me - but since they are all pretty close and all beautiful, it feels like I cannot go wrong.

6N Natural Dark Blonde Heat Activated Hair Dye With Organic Ingredients 120 mL / 4 fl. oz.
I am extremely chemically sensitive, especially to fragrances. For 2 years I was using a well-known fragrance-free hair color, which has a high percentage of ethanolamine, which I discovered was causing hair loss. I stopped using that product and let my mostly gray/white hair grow out for 3 months, and the hair loss stopped. I do not feel my best with gray/white hair, not because of an age issue, but because of color theory, i.e., some people do not have the skin tone for light hair, so I began a search for a new hair color. Many so-called experts claim that Elumen is a non-toxic hair color, but I tried a strand test with it, and the scent made me ill, and it is very staining on hair, skin, everything. Henna also is a staining commitment and a lot of work, though natural. My last hope was here, ONC, so I tried a strand test first, which worked well to cover gray/white, and the banana oil scent did not make me ill. I first tried 6N with 7N, which was too dark. The next month I tried 7N with 8N, which was too light and did not cover gray/white. The magic combination, which is not listed in the recommended combinations on this web site, is 6N with 8N, which has given me the perfect shade of warm brown, not too dark, not too light. Best of all, the percentage of ethanolamine is low, and indeed, after 3 months I have no hair loss. In fact, my hair is really thick and beautiful now. It is very important to follow the instructions, particularly with the application timing and the heat timing and the 3-minute massage before rinsing. The conditioner is also important; however, the conditioner that comes with the kit made me ill because of its fragrance, so I can only use a separate fragrance-free conditioner, but it is an important final step. For me the color holds well and fades subtly, yet it does not have the feeling of a BIG commitment, which can only be cut out to change. While there is no such thing as 100 percent chemical-free hair color that can really cover gray/white, this is the closest to BEST that I have found in a home coloring kit, and believe me, I have searched. The process takes about an hour to an hour and a half, not including washing and drying hair before starting, so at $60.00 and an hour or so, that is far less time and money than a salon, but of course, not as cheap or easy as drugstore dye or going gray. For me, right now, it is worth it. For reference, I am 55 at the time of this review, with a chin-length bob, which I cut myself. I strive to live a healthy, low-chemical lifestyle. I can only hope that this hair color once every 4-6 weeks will not compromise my health, but in any case, it sure makes me happy to have found it!

My only complaint is that the amount is pretty small. I've never had to use more than one bottle of hair dye in any brand because my hair is pretty thin. There was barely enough to cover my hair. So, beware however many bottles you usually use I'd grab one more.
